Nissan Consult 3 / Consult 4 Software Update and License Renewal
Nissan Consult updates are pushed only after the license is renewed, and the renewal is locked to your TechInfo account and PC serial. Here's how to renew, let it propagate, and pull the update.
A Nissan Consult update only goes through after the license is active, and Consult licenses are locked to both your Nissan TechInfo account and the specific PC serial. So an Updates & Licensing problem with Consult 3 or Consult 4 — "license expired," an update that won't run, or a renewal that "didn't take" — is almost always about the license state and its propagation, not the update itself. This guide covers renewing the license, waiting for it to propagate, pulling the update, and handling a license that's bound to the wrong computer. If you're setting Consult up on a brand-new laptop, start with the Consult install guide first, then return here to update.
Step 1 - Verify the subscription is active for this PC
Consult subscriptions are PC-serial locked, so confirm the license is active for the exact laptop you're on:
1. Log into your AE Tools account, or call AE Tools with the PC serial.
2. Confirm the Nissan Consult subscription is active and assigned to this PC's serial number.
3. If it has expired, renew it through AE Tools before doing anything else.
Step 2 - Allow the renewal to propagate
Nissan license renewals can take up to 24 hours to fully propagate after AE Tools submits the request.
- If the renewal was processed today, wait until the next day before troubleshooting an update.
- Once propagation completes, the renewal applies automatically - there is no manual activation on your end beyond logging in and reaching the update server.
Step 3 - Run the update
After the renewal has propagated:
1. Connect the laptop to Wi-Fi or Ethernet — Consult needs internet to pull updates.
2. Right-click Consult and Run as administrator.
3. Let the update complete fully; larger updates can take 30+ minutes.
4. Bring Consult 3 up to the current release (version 261.10 at the time of writing) for current vehicles.
5. Connect the VI3 and verify communication.
If the update fails immediately with a login error, the renewal hasn't finished propagating yet - wait and retry.
Step 4 - Confirm the version after updating
1. Open Consult and check the version number inside the app.
2. Consult 3 should be on the current release (261.10 at the time of writing) for current vehicles.
3. Consult 4 should be on the current version per the AE Tools recommendation.
Step 5 - Handle a license bound to the wrong computer
If you bought a subscription that didn't work, or the license is bound to a different computer than the one you need to use:
1. Call AE Tools.
2. Provide the PC serial of the laptop that needs the license.
3. AE Tools emails Nissan to request the reassignment.
4. Propagation can take up to 24 hours after Nissan accepts the reassignment.
Troubleshooting: Consult update and license issues
"I bought a 1-day Consult subscription and it's bound to another computer." Call AE Tools right away - a Nissan reassignment is the only fix, and it won't resolve same-day, so plan around the propagation window.
"The renewal processed yesterday but Consult still won't update." Allow the full 24-hour propagation window. If it still fails after 24 hours, call AE Tools to verify the renewal reached Nissan.
"The update completes but Consult doesn't recognize newer vehicles." You may need Consult 4 rather than Consult 3 - newer models such as 2023+ Ariya, 2024+ Rogue, and 2025+ Kicks / Murano / Armada require Consult 4.
