Working on a Nissan and not sure which Consult software to use? There are four software platforms for Nissan - Consult 3 R2R, Consult 3, Consult 4 R2R, and Consult 4. Each one works on its own set of tools and supports different functions. Here's how to know which one applies to your job.
Consult 4 software
Tool Requirements: Nissan VI3 Tool
Functions supported:
- Diagnostics
- Module Programming
Cars compatible only in Consult 4 (these models cannot be serviced through Consult 3):
- 23MY and newer Ariya
- 24MY and newer Rogue
- 25MY or newer Kicks
- 25MY or newer Murano
- 25MY or newer Armada
Consult 3 software
Tool Requirements: Nissan VI3 / VI2 Tool
Functions supported:
- Key Programming
- Diagnostics
- Module Programming
Consult 4 R2R software
Tool Requirements: J2534 (3rd Gen) - AEZ3, Cardaq 3, or Snap-On Pass Thru Pro 4
Functions supported:
- Diagnostics
- Module Programming
Consult 3 R2R software
Tool Requirements: J2534 (3rd Gen) - AEZ3, Cardaq 3, or Snap-On Pass Thru Pro 4

- Key Programming (only on 20+ Sentra and 21-23 Rogue)

Important notes about choosing Nissan software
Key programming is only available on the Consult 3 platforms (Consult 3 with VI3 / VI2, or Consult 3 R2R via J2534 - and on Consult 3 R2R, only for the 20+ Sentra and 21-23 Rogue).
The newest Nissan models (23+ Ariya, 24+ Rogue, 25+ Kicks / Murano / Armada) require Consult 4 and the Nissan VI3 Tool. Consult 3 and the R2R platforms will not service these vehicles.
