How to Update Ford FDRS Software (Using the In-App Software Download Links)

Ford FDRS updates are installed from inside the program, using the Software Download Links panel on the FDRS home screen. Here is the step-by-step update process.

Ford FDRS (Ford Diagnosis and Repair System) updates are installed from inside the application itself, through the Software Download Links panel on the FDRS home screen — not from a separate download page. Keeping FDRS on the latest version is an Updates & Licensing task and is required for current vehicle coverage and module programming. This guide walks through the normal update process. If your FDRS update fails, freezes, or hangs partway through, that's a different fix — see the FDRS update-failure reinstall guide linked below.

Step 1 - Open FDRS and locate the Software Download Links panel

Open Ford FDRS from the desktop and let the home screen load. On the FDRS home screen, look in the lower-middle area for a yellow header labeled "Software Download Links." Beneath that header is a link that reads "FDRS [Version Number]." The version number reflects the current FDRS release, so the exact number will differ each time there's a new version - that is expected.

Step 2 - Download the update

Click the "FDRS [Version Number]" link under Software Download Links. A security prompt appears asking whether to run or save the file - click Run. A loading bar then appears while the FDRS update downloads. Let it finish completely without interrupting it.

Step 3 - Run the FDRS Setup wizard

When the download finishes, the "Setup – Ford Diagnosis and Repair System" wizard opens to a welcome screen. Click Next to begin.

Step 4 - Accept the license agreement

On the License Agreement screen, select the option "I accept the agreement," then click Next. Continue clicking Next on each screen that follows to move through the rest of the wizard.

Step 5 - Decline any Yes/No prompt and finish

If a screen appears offering a Yes or No choice, click No. The wizard then completes the installation. When the final screen appears, the FDRS update is finished and you can close the wizard.

If the update fails, freezes, or hangs

If FDRS freezes mid-update or the update won't complete, don't keep retrying the in-app update - the install is usually corrupted and needs a clean reinstall. See "How to fix Ford FDRS update failures, freezes, and hangs" for the uninstall-and-reinstall procedure.
