Use this procedure to update Ford FDRS (Ford Diagnostic and Repair System) to the latest version. Following the steps in order including the "remove existing data" option during uninstall ensures a clean installation free of legacy data conflicts that can cause the new version to misbehave or fail to launch.
Ford FDRS update procedure
Follow the steps below in order. Download the new installer first so it's ready as soon as the uninstall completes.
Step 1 - Download the latest FDRS installer:
- Go to www.motorcraftservice.com.
- Click Diagnostic Tool Support at the top of the page.
- Navigate to Software → FDRS → Download Software.
- Download the latest version of the FDRS installer.
Step 2 - Uninstall the current FDRS:
- Go to Control Panel → Uninstall a Program.
- Locate FDRS in the list and begin uninstalling.
- When prompted to remove existing data, check the box and proceed with the uninstall.
Note: Removing existing data during uninstall prevents conflicts with the new installation. Do not skip this step leaving legacy data in place is the most common cause of failed FDRS reinstalls.
Step 3 - Install the new FDRS version:
- Run the FDRS installer downloaded in Step 1.
- Follow all on-screen prompts to complete installation.
Step 4 - Log in to FDRS:
- Open FDRS.
- Enter your registered email address and password to log in.
Note: If you do not have an account, you must create one before logging in. Use the account registration option on the FDRS login screen or via the Motorcraft Service website.
