Autel Tablet Won't Update - Subscription, Connectivity, and Push Update Procedure
When your Autel MaxiSys tablet won't download updates, here's how to verify your subscription is current, ensure connectivity, and get AETools to push the update directly. Covers ms909, ms919, ADAS, and EV add-on subscriptions.
Why Autel updates fail
There are three common reasons your Autel MaxiSys tablet won't update:
- Subscription expired - Autel requires an active subscription to download new software, vehicle databases, or firmware. An expired subscription blocks updates even if the tablet itself is fine.
- Connectivity issue - the tablet can't reach Autel's servers (Wi-Fi problem, network firewall, or VPN interference).
- Account / payment issue - the card on file expired, or your account email is no longer valid.
The six-step procedure below works through these causes in order. Start at Step 1 even if you think you know the cause confirming subscription status first saves you from chasing a Wi-Fi issue that turns out to be a billing problem.
Step 1 - Verify your subscription status
On the tablet, check whether your Autel subscriptions are still active:
- Open the main Autel app.
- Go to Profile → Subscriptions (or "Update Subscription" depending on model).
- Look for the expiration date next to each subscription type:
- Vehicle update subscription.
- ADAS calibration subscription (if applicable).
- EV diagnostic subscription (if applicable).
If any subscription is expired, that's likely your blocker. Continue to Step 2 to renew.
Step 2 - Renew through AETools
If you purchased your Autel through AETools, renew the subscription as follows:
- Open a support ticket or call sales.
- Confirm the tablet serial number (printed on the back of the tablet, or visible in the Autel app under device info).
- Provide payment for the renewal.
- AETools processes the payment and renews the subscription.
Important: Some Autel subscriptions also have an ADAS or EV add-on with separate pricing. Confirm which subscriptions you actually need renewed paying for the base subscription alone won't reactivate ADAS or EV features.
Note: Verify current Autel pricing with the AETools sales team before quoting - Autel periodically adjusts subscription pricing.

Step 3 - AETools can push the update directly
For tablets that aren't pulling the update on their own, AETools can push it from their end:
- After the subscription renewal is processed, AETools pushes the software/license update to the tablet remotely.
- The push typically takes 20–30 minutes to reach the tablet.
- You'll need to shut down and restart the tablet after the push completes for the update to install.
You don't need to be on a remote session for this the push happens server-side. AETools confirms when they've initiated it.
Step 4 - Verify connectivity if updates still fail after renewal
If the subscription is active and the push has been initiated but the tablet still won't pull the update, the issue is connectivity. Check the following:
Check Wi-Fi:
- On the tablet, ensure Wi-Fi is connected and showing internet access.
- Test by opening a browser on the tablet (if available) and loading any web page.
- If your shop Wi-Fi has guest restrictions, try connecting to a different network or hotspot.
Check for VPN / firewall:
- Corporate or shop-managed Wi-Fi sometimes blocks Autel's update servers.
- If you're on a managed network, ask IT to whitelist Autel's update domains.
- Try a personal hotspot as a test if updates work on a hotspot but not on shop Wi-Fi, it's a firewall issue.
Update the tablet's date and time:
- If the tablet's clock is wrong, SSL/TLS connections to Autel can fail.
- Set date/time to automatic in Android settings.
Step 5 - Update the payment method
If your Autel account has an expired card on file, the renewal itself can fail silently. To fix:
- AETools updates the card during the renewal.
- Provide the new card details (number, expiration, billing zip).
- AETools sends a confirmation receipt to your current email.
- Check that the receipt went to the correct email it sometimes routes to an old autel.com registration email instead of your current one. If so, update the account email before the next renewal.
Step 6 - When updates fail at the tablet, not the server
If AETools confirms the subscription is active and the push has been sent, but the tablet still won't install the update:
- Restart the tablet (full power-off, wait 30 seconds, power on).
- Try the update again from Profile → Updates.
- If still failing, factory reset may be needed see the related article on Autel tablet recovery.
Common follow-up issues
"Subscription renewed but tablet still says expired" - The tablet's local cache may not have refreshed. Sign out and back into your Autel account, or restart the tablet.
"I have multiple Autel tablets - do I need separate subscriptions?" - Yes. Each tablet has its own serial number and its own subscription. They don't share.
"Renewal price was different from last year" - Autel periodically adjusts subscription pricing. Confirm current pricing with AETools sales before each renewal.
