How to Use the CD That Came with Your Nissan CVT Transmission Using Consult III

Step-by-step guide to loading Nissan CVT transmission calibration data from the included CD using Consult III Plus software. Requires an active Nissan subscription and a laptop with a CD drive.

Received a CD with your Nissan CVT transmission and not sure what to do with it? The CD contains transmission calibration data that needs to be loaded into the vehicle using the Nissan Consult III Plus diagnostic software. This article walks you through the full vehicle programming process. You must have an active Nissan subscription and a laptop with a CD disc reader built in before starting.

How to log in and connect your diagnostic tool in Consult III

Step 1: Open the Nissan Consult III Plus software and log in with your TechInfo User ID and TechInfo Password.

Step 2: If you have a Nissan VI OEM Tool (VI 2 or VI 3), it should automatically connect to the vehicle.

Step 3: If you are using a J2534 device such as the AEZFlasher 3, click on "Select VI/MI" on the main screen. Then click on "VCI," select your device from the list, and click "Connect." You should see your device show "VCI Mode/USB connection" under Connection Status.

How to access Nissan CVT transmission diagnostics in Consult III

Step 4: From the Diagnosis Menu on the home screen, click on "Diagnosis (One System)."

Step 5: On the System Selection screen under the NISSAN/INFINITI/DATSUN tab, make sure "Priority" is set to "All systems," then click on "TRANSMISSION."

How to start the Write IP Characteristic procedure for AT/CVT replacement

Step 6: Once inside the Transmission module, click on the "Work Support" tab at the top of the screen.

Step 7: From the Test Item list, select "WRITE IP CHARA - REPLACEMENT AT/CVT," then click "Start" at the bottom of the screen.

How to load the calibration file from your Nissan transmission CD

Step 8: Consult III Plus will open a Windows file browser and ask you to select the calibration file. Insert the CD that came with your Nissan transmission into your laptop's CD drive.

Step 9: Click "OK" on any prompt that appears, then in the file browser navigate to "This PC" and select your "DVD RW Drive (D:)." The drive will be labeled with the transmission's serial number, such as "28X28 - 28920XX."

Step 10: Open the drive and you will see a single CSV file named similar to "HKC2_IP_INF_28X28_28920XX_2308XX.csv." Select the file and click "Open."

Important: Do not open, edit, or rename the CSV file in Excel before loading it. Excel can corrupt the file by stripping leading zeros. Always load it directly from the CD.

How to verify the serial number and complete the write

Step 11: Consult III Plus will display the WRITE IP CHARA - REPLACEMENT AT/CVT screen showing a serial number (for example, 28920XX) in the "Serial No." field.

Step 12: Physically check that the serial number on the screen matches the serial number stamped on the AT/CVT assembly or printed on the QR code sticker on the new transmission. If the serial numbers do not match, do not continue. Writing the wrong calibration file can cause permanent shift quality and drivability issues.

Step 13: If the serial numbers match, click "Next" and follow the on-screen prompts to complete the write.

Step 14: When the write completes successfully, click "End" to finish the procedure.

How to finish up after Nissan transmission programming

Step 15: After the IP characteristic write is complete, return to the Work Support menu and run "ERASE LEARNING VALUE" to clear the old transmission's adapt values.

Step 16: Perform a short road-learn drive cycle so the TCM can relearn shift adapts for the new transmission.

Step 17: Run a final scan under "Self Diagnostic Result" to confirm there are no remaining DTCs.

Important notes about Nissan CVT transmission CD programming

This process requires an active Nissan TechInfo subscription. If your subscription has expired, you will need to renew it before you can perform any Nissan vehicle programming or diagnostics through Consult III.

Your laptop must have a built-in CD disc reader to access the calibration data on the CD. If your laptop does not have a CD drive, you may need an external USB CD drive.

If the AEZFlasher 3 does not show up under Select VI/MI, confirm the drivers are installed, the USB cable is fully seated, and the device is receiving 12V from the vehicle's OBD-II port. Click "Refresh" in the Select VI/MI window.
