Toyota GTS+ License Errors: Releasing a License Bound to Another PC and Fixing Validation Failures on an Active Subscription
A Toyota TechInfo license is locked to one computer, so reinstalling on a new laptop produces a license error until Toyota releases the old one. Validation errors also occur on subscriptions that are genuinely active. Both are resolved by Toyota directly, not by AE Tools, and neither means you need to buy a second subscription.
A Toyota TechInfo license is tied to the computer it was activated on. Reinstalling GTS+ or Techstream on a different laptop — or on the same laptop after a rebuild — leaves the license still registered against the old machine, and the software returns a license error even though the subscription is paid and current. A second, similar problem produces license validation errors on subscriptions that are fully active. Both are resolved on Toyota's side rather than by AE Tools, and in both cases buying another subscription does not help. This Updates & Licensing guide covers what to do for each.
Confirm which problem you have
-
License error immediately after reinstalling on a different computer — the license is still bound to the previous PC. See "Releasing a license" below.
-
License or validation error with no change of machine — Toyota needs to refresh the license. See "Validation errors" below.
-
Software installs but will not launch at all — see the Techstream / GTS+ Windows 11 article, as that is an installation problem rather than a license one.
Releasing a license bound to another PC
AE Tools cannot release a Toyota license. The request has to go to Toyota directly.
-
Call Toyota TechInfo support and select option 3.
-
Ask for the license on your account to be released from the previous computer.
-
Have your TechInfo account email and, where possible, the previous machine's details to hand.
-
Once Toyota confirms the release, activate the software on the new computer with the same account.
Do not buy a second subscription. A duplicate purchase does not create a new license slot — the release still has to happen, and you then have a subscription to refund. If you have already bought one, contact AE Tools with both order numbers.
Plan the release before decommissioning the old machine where you can, so the call is not sitting between you and a booked vehicle.
Validation errors on an active subscription
License validation errors also occur on subscriptions that are genuinely active and correctly assigned. These have included periods where Toyota's verification was failing more broadly rather than for one account.
Before calling anyone:
-
Confirm the subscription is active on the Toyota TechInfo site.
-
Check the laptop's date, time, and time zone, and enable automatic internet time. An incorrect clock causes license validation to fail.
-
Sign out of GTS+ completely and sign back in.
If the subscription is confirmed active and the clock is correct, the license needs refreshing on Toyota's side. Call Toyota support and ask for the license to be refreshed or unlocked. AE Tools can confirm what was purchased and when, but cannot perform the refresh.
When to contact AE Tools instead
Contact AE Tools if:
-
You need to confirm what subscription was purchased, under which email, and when it expires.
-
You bought a duplicate subscription while troubleshooting and need it refunded.
-
You bought the subscription through AE Tools and need help with the install or setup once the license is working.
If you bought the subscription directly from Toyota rather than through AE Tools, license problems go to Toyota — AE Tools cannot see or act on a direct purchase.
