Tesla Toolbox 3: Fixing the "Traffic to Odin Blocked" Error (Ethernet and Chrome Setup)
The "Traffic to Odin Blocked" error in Tesla Toolbox 3 comes from two settings that aren't configured yet: a static Ethernet IP for the vehicle connection, and Chrome's "Insecure content" permission for the Toolbox site. Setting both clears it.
When Tesla Toolbox 3 shows the error "Traffic to Odin Blocked," it means Toolbox can't reach the vehicle's diagnostic backend (Odin) — and it's almost always because two things haven't been configured yet: the laptop's Ethernet connection to the car needs a specific static IP, and Chrome needs to allow "insecure content" for the Toolbox site. Toolbox 3 runs in Chrome and connects to the vehicle over an Ethernet cable, so both the network side and the browser side have to be set correctly. This guide walks through both, and completing them clears the "Traffic to Odin Blocked" error.
Step 1 - Set a static Ethernet IP for the vehicle connection
Toolbox talks to the vehicle over Ethernet, and the laptop's Ethernet adapter needs a fixed IP address on the car's network rather than an automatic one:
1. Connect the Ethernet cable from the laptop to the vehicle.
2. In the Windows taskbar search, type and open View network connections.
3. Select the Ethernet device that's plugged into the vehicle.
4. Open its properties, then select Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4) and click Properties.
5. Choose "Use the following IP address."
6. Enter the IP address 192.168.90.125.
7. The subnet mask auto-populates to 255.255.255.0.
8. Click OK.
Step 2 - Allow insecure content for the Toolbox site in Chrome
Tesla Toolbox 3 runs in Google Chrome, and the Toolbox site needs Chrome's "Insecure content" permission set to Allow, or Toolbox can't complete the connection to the vehicle:
1. In Chrome, go to the Tesla Toolbox site (toolbox.tesla.com).
2. Click the View site information icon at the left end of the address bar.
3. Click Site settings.
4. Scroll down to Insecure content and change the dropdown from Block to Allow.
Step 3 - Reconnect and verify
1. Return to the Toolbox tab and reload the page.
2. Enter the VIN and connect to the vehicle.
3. With the static IP set and insecure content allowed, the "Traffic to Odin Blocked" error should be gone and Toolbox should connect.
Troubleshooting: Tesla Toolbox connection
"I still get 'Traffic to Odin Blocked' after setting the IP." Recheck Chrome's Insecure content setting for the Toolbox site (Step 2) — both the static IP and the browser permission have to be in place, and this one is easy to miss.
"Toolbox connected before but stopped after a network change." If the laptop's Ethernet settings reset (for example after connecting to a different network), re-apply the static IP from Step 1 — an automatic IP won't reach the vehicle.
"The static IP won't save or the adapter shows an error." Confirm you're editing the Ethernet adapter that's actually plugged into the vehicle, not Wi-Fi or a different adapter, then re-enter the IP exactly as 192.168.90.125.
