ODIS Certificate Expired - How to Renew Your VW / Audi Security Certificate
When ODIS shows "Certificate Expired," your laptop's hardware-locked security certificate needs to be renewed through AETools. Renewal turnaround is typically 24–48 hours from purchase.
What "ODIS Certificate Expired" means
If you get an "ODIS Certificate Expired" message when attempting to use ODIS, it means that the security certificate that allows your specific computer to use ODIS has expired. The certificate is hardware-locked to that laptop it authenticates your machine with the VW / Audi server every time you open ODIS. Once it expires, ODIS stops working on that laptop until the certificate is renewed.
This is not a password issue, a subscription issue (flat-rate), or a software install issue. It is specifically the security certificate that has reached its expiration date.
How to renew your ODIS certificate
The certificate will need to be renewed, and the turnaround time is 24–48 hours from purchase. To renew:
- Contact AETools to purchase the certificate renewal.
- AETools coordinates with Volkswagen to issue a new certificate tied to your laptop's hardware ID.
- The new certificate is delivered within 24–48 hours from purchase.
- Once installed, ODIS will resume working on that laptop.
If you have multiple laptops authorized for ODIS, each one has its own certificate- only the expired laptop's certificate needs renewing.
