Nissan Consult 3 / Consult 4 Install on a New Laptop: Setup and Subscription Transfer Guide

Nissan Consult subscriptions are locked to both your Nissan TechInfo account and the specific PC serial, so moving to a new laptop almost always needs a renewal or transfer request. Here's the full install and setup process.

Installing Nissan Consult 3 or Consult 4 on a new laptop is an Installation & Setup task with one catch that trips up most setups: Nissan Consult subscriptions are locked to both your Nissan TechInfo account and the specific PC serial number. Because of that, an existing subscription usually will not work on a new laptop until a renewal or transfer request is processed. This guide covers the system requirements, the install, connecting the VI3, and getting the subscription onto the new PC.

Step 1 - Confirm system requirements

- Windows 11 Pro (Windows 10 is no longer supported for current Consult versions).

- 16 GB RAM. - An active Nissan TechInfo subscription assigned to this PC's serial number.

- A Nissan VI3 interface. The VI3 hardware is shareable across laptops, as long as each laptop has its own working subscription.

Step 2 - Install Consult 3 and / or Consult 4

1. Download the Consult installer from the AE Tools-provided source using your Nissan TechInfo credentials.

2. Install Consult 3 for older Nissan vehicles.

3. Install Consult 4 for newer models - for example 2023+ Ariya, 2024+ Rogue, and 2025+ Kicks / Murano / Armada.

4. Right-click the installer and Run as administrator.

5. Let the install complete fully before opening the program.

Step 3 - Connect the VI3 interface

1. Plug the VI3 directly into a laptop USB port.

2. Open Consult.

3. Confirm the VI3 is recognized.

4. Connect to a vehicle to verify communication.

Step 4 - Get the subscription onto the new PC

Because Nissan Consult subscriptions are tied to both your TechInfo account and the PC serial, moving to a new laptop almost always requires a renewal or transfer request. There are two paths:

Option A — run two laptops at once: create a second Nissan TechInfo account and buy a separate subscription for the new laptop. Both laptops can then be used at the same time. Option B — transfer to the new laptop: call AE Tools, provide the new PC's serial number, and AE Tools submits the renewal / transfer request to Nissan. Propagation can take up to 24 hours.

In both cases the VI3 hardware moves freely between laptops once each laptop has a working subscription.

Step 5 - Update Consult to the current version

For current Nissan vehicles, Consult 3 should be on the latest release (version 261.10 at the time of writing).

1. With an active subscription and an internet connection, run Consult as administrator.

2. Let it update to the current version.

3. Confirm the version number inside Consult.

Step 6 - Resolve Consult 4 hangs

Intermittent hangs in Consult 4 are a known behavior, especially right after install:

- Restart the laptop, then reopen Consult 4.

- Always run Consult 4 as administrator - without admin rights, parts of it silently fail.

- Disable third-party antivirus during diagnostic sessions.

- Confirm the laptop is on Windows 11 Pro, not Windows 10.

- Confirm all Nissan updates have been applied.

Step 7 - VI3 backorder workaround

The VI3 interface has been on backorder. If you need to service newer Nissan models and can't get one, an AEZ Flasher 3 rental running Consult 4 R2R (Right to Repair) software can be a temporary workaround for some functions. Note that not all VI3-specific functions are available through R2R - call AE Tools to confirm which path fits your immediate jobs.

Troubleshooting: Nissan Consult install and subscription issues

"My existing subscription won't work on the new laptop." Consult subscriptions are PC-serial locked - the renewal / transfer request through AE Tools (Step 4) is required.

"The Consult installer keeps failing." Run the installer as administrator, disable Avast or similar antivirus during the install, and confirm the laptop is on Windows 11 Pro.

"The license is bound to another computer." A Nissan reassignment is required - email Nissan (with AE Tools cc'd) to request it. Reassignment can take up to 24 hours.
