My Ninja or Gymkana Is Not Cutting Correctly – Troubleshooting

A step-by-step troubleshooting checklist for when your Keyline Ninja or Gymkana isn't cutting keys correctly.

Start Here Before Assuming Your Keyline Machine Is Defective

If a key doesn't look right or doesn't work as expected, do not immediately assume your Keyline machine is defective. Start by checking the application, blank, clamp, and machine setup.

Step 1 - Verify the Application
Confirm the correct vehicle was selected, the correct key type was selected, the correct code was entered, and the correct decoding procedure was used on your Keyline machine.

Step 2 - Verify the Blank
Make sure the correct blank was selected, the blank matches the application, the blank is not damaged, and the blank is seated correctly.

Step 3 - Verify the Clamp
This is especially important on Keyline Gymkana. Gymkana uses different clamps for different applications, including the U clamp for laser and edge-cut automotive keys, the V clamp for certain Volkswagen laser keys, and optional clamps for other applications. Check Keyline's manufacturer resources whenever you're unsure which clamp applies to your Gymkana job.

Step 4 - Check the Original Key
If decoding on your Keyline machine, check whether the original key is excessively worn, damaged, or bent, and confirm it is appropriate for decoding. A worn original can produce inaccurate decoding information.

Step 5 - Check Calibration
If your Keyline machine has been moved, serviced, or is producing inconsistent cuts, verify calibration.

Step 6 - Check Liger
Confirm there is no software error and the machine is properly connected.

Step 7 - Document the Problem
If the problem continues, take a photo of the original key, a photo of the finished key, a photo of the clamp, a screenshot of Liger, and a photo/video of the machine, along with the error message. Then contact AE Tools Support.
