Installing Java for Diagnostic Software (32-bit, Windows Offline)
Some diagnostic applications require Java to be installed on the Windows laptop. Install the latest Java using the 32-bit Windows Offline installer - do not use the 64-bit version.
Some diagnostic applications require Java to be installed on the Windows laptop before they'll run. If a diagnostic program prompts for Java or won't launch without it, install Java using the steps below. The important detail is the version: use the 32-bit Windows Offline installer, not the 64-bit version - the 64-bit build can cause the software not to work correctly.
How to install Java
1. Go to the official Java manual download page: https://www.java.com/en/download/manual.jsp
2. Click Windows Offline (this is the 32-bit installer).
3. Do not download the Windows Offline 64-bit version.
4. Run the downloaded installer and follow the prompts to complete the installation.
5. Restart the diagnostic application (or the laptop) after installing.
Notes
- The requirement is standard Java — there's no special or separate runtime to track down; the current Java from the page above is what's needed.
- If a diagnostic program still won't launch after installing 32-bit Java, confirm no conflicting 64-bit Java version is installed, and contact AE Tools if it persists.
