Hyundai / Kia / Genesis GDS Software and Data Update
GDS updates depend on an active Hyundai / Kia / Genesis subscription and Windows 11 Pro. A new subscription isn't usable until the activation code comes from the GA team, which takes about 2–3 weeks.
A Hyundai, Kia, or Genesis GDS update that won't run, won't complete, or installs but shows no vehicles is almost always one of two things: the laptop isn't on Windows 11 Pro, or the subscription isn't fully active yet. This is an Updates & Licensing issue, and because a new Hyundai / Kia / Genesis subscription can take 10–14 days to fully activate, an update that "won't work" is often just a subscription that hasn't gone live. Work through the checks below before reinstalling.
Step 1 - Confirm the laptop is on Windows 11 Pro
GDS requires Windows 11 Pro specifically. On Windows 11 Home, GDS will install but the diagnostic packages won't populate — you'll see an empty vehicle-make list.
1. Go to Settings → System → About.
2. Confirm the edition reads Windows 11 Pro.
3. If it reads Windows 11 Home, move to Pro (an in-place upgrade to Pro, or a replacement laptop) before troubleshooting further - GDS will not populate vehicles on Home. AE Tools can check upgrade eligibility.
Step 2 - Verify the subscription is active
1. Call AE Tools with your tablet or tool serial.
2. Confirm the Hyundai / Kia / Genesis subscription is active.
3. For a new subscription, the activation code comes from the GA team and takes about 2–3 weeks to be issued - GDS won't fully activate until that code is in.
If it has been more than 3 weeks since the order was submitted and the subscription still isn't active, escalate to the AE Tools production team - they follow up with the GA team to confirm the activation code status. Do not buy a second subscription for the same tool while the first is still pending; that creates duplicate billing that has to be unwound.
Step 3 - Run the update
1. Connect the laptop to a stable internet connection (Wi-Fi or Ethernet).
2. Open GDS.
3. Let the update push automatically.
4. Allow time for it to complete — GDS updates can be lengthy.
Step 4 - Push updates to tablet-based GDS deployments
For tablet-based GDS:
1. Provide the tablet serial(s) to AE Tools.
2. AE Tools submits a renewal quote.
3. After approval and payment, AE Tools pushes the update remotely via ScreenConnect.
4. The tablet needs ScreenConnect installed with Accessibility and Remote Management permissions enabled.
Step 5 - Fix "GDS won't populate diagnostic packages"
If GDS installs but the manufacturer / vehicle-make list is empty:
1. Verify Windows 11 Pro - this is the most common cause (see Step 1).
2. If on Pro, verify the subscription is fully active.
3. If both are confirmed and the list is still empty, reinstall GDS.
4. If a reinstall doesn't fix it, call AE Tools - there may be a region or VIN mismatch.
Troubleshooting: GDS update and subscription issues
"My subscription is about three weeks old and still pending." Escalate to AE Tools production with the order date, your tablet / tool serial, and the registered email — they follow up on the GA team activation code directly.
"I bought a Hyundai tablet, but the subscription is separate?" Yes. The tablet hardware, the VCI, and the software subscription are sold separately. Hyundai, Kia, and Genesis each require their own software subscription, though the VCI can be shared across the three brands. Contact AE Tools for current pricing.
"GDS works but won't load 2024+ vehicle data." Confirm the subscription tier covers current-year vehicles - some tiers lag the newest model years by a release cycle.
