This guide walks you through installing and setting up WiTECH 2.0 - on a new MicroPod (MDP/MDP+/WSP) or an AEZ Flasher 3, plus reinstalling it or moving it to a new laptop.
Step-by-step guide to set up your new MDP or MDP+ Micropod tool using VCI Setup Utility software, connect it to WiTech, and update the firmware.
This guide walks you through setting up your new MDP/MDP+ Micropod tool for use with WiTech diagnostic software. Before starting, make sure you have purchased the necessary WiTech and TechAuthority subscriptions for full functionality. If you already have active subscriptions on your WiTech account, call AETools to have your new device registered to the account before proceeding.
Before you start: system requirements
Confirm all of the following before setting up WiTECH 2.0, whether on a MicroPod or an AEZ Flasher 3:
- Windows 11 Pro (Windows 10 is no longer supported).
- 16 GB RAM minimum for programming work.
- At least ~100 GB of free disk space for the install and updates.
- An active WiTECH 2.0 and TechAuthority subscription assigned to your tool serial.
If the laptop is still on Windows 10, call AE Tools to confirm it is upgrade-eligible before starting.
Install and run the VCI Setup Utility
Step 1: Check if you have the VCI Setup Utility software on your computer. If you don't have it, go to Mopar TSP and download the VCI Setup Utility software. Once the installer has downloaded, follow each step until VCI Setup Utility is fully installed on your PC.
Important: When the WiTECH 2 installer runs, it shows a white box asking you to choose North American or Rest of World. Always select North American.
Step 2: Open the VCI Setup Utility software. If prompted for an update, click "Continue" and the update will be applied. You may be prompted to restart the software after the update.
Step 3: Once inside the VCI Setup Utility, you will see a screen with 2 options. Select "Continue." DO NOT select "Wireless Configuration" at any step in this process.
Connect the MDP/MDP+ via USB and configure
Step 4: VCI Setup Utility will now attempt to connect to your MDP/MDP+ device via USB. This may take up to 2 minutes. Once the MDP has been found, you will be prompted to begin the configuration process. This configuration may take up to 15 minutes to complete.
Step 5: Once the configuration process has completed, LEAVE VCI SETUP UTILITY OPEN. Do not close it. Open your browser and access your WiTech software at https://fcawitech.okta.com/. Log in and select the wiTECH2 AM PROD option.
Update firmware and verify setup
Step 6: Once you access the WiTech dashboard, you will be prompted to run another update for your MDP tool's firmware. This update may take up to 10 minutes to complete.
Step 7: Once the firmware update has completed, your tool information and subscription expiration date will be visible on the WiTech dashboard. This means your MDP/MDP+ tool has been successfully configured and registered to your account.
Setting up an AEZ Flasher 3 instead of a MicroPod
If you are using an AEZ Flasher 3 (J2534) rather than a MicroPod, the setup is different - you do not use the VCI Setup Utility USB configuration above. Instead:
1. Install the AEZ Flasher 3 drivers on the laptop.
2. Run J2534 Toolbox and confirm the Flasher is detected.
3. Open WiTECH 2.0 and log in with your YTAG credentials at https://fcawitech.okta.com/, selecting the wiTECH2 AM PROD option.
Your WiTECH 2.0 and TechAuthority subscriptions must be assigned to the AEZ Flasher 3 serial for it to activate.
If your laptop shipped with the wrong Flasher software version - for example, AE Flasher 3 software installed but your device is actually an AE Flasher 2 (or vice versa) don't install the other version on top of it. Uninstall the wrong version first, then call AE Tools and we can correct the install remotely.
Updating AEZ Flasher 3 firmware: The AEZ Flasher 3 is a wired USB device - it is not wireless. To update its firmware, connect it by USB cable and run any OEM software; the firmware updates automatically when you connect and start a session. There is no separate firmware updater and nothing to click. Leave it connected and let the update finish before starting work.
Doing a clean reinstall of WiTECH 2.0
If WiTECH 2.0 is already installed and corrupted, remove it cleanly before reinstalling so leftover files don't break the new install:
1. Download Revo Uninstaller (the free version is fine).
2. Run Advanced scan.
3. Right-click the WiTECH 2.0 entry only - do not blanket-uninstall other Stellantis / Mopar software.
4. Let Revo finish (about 5 minutes), then restart the laptop.
5. Delete any leftover WiTECH folders that remain after the uninstall (replace "your-username" with your Windows account name):
- C:\ProgramData\FCA Group
- C:\Users\your-username\AppData\Local\WT2 Wrapper
- C:\Users\your-username\AppData\Roaming\witech
Tip: paste %ProgramData%\FCA Group, %LocalAppData%\WT2 Wrapper, and %AppData%\witech into the File Explorer address bar to jump to each folder regardless of username.
6. Reinstall using the steps in "Install and run the VCI Setup Utility" above.
Moving WiTECH 2.0 to a new laptop
WiTECH 2.0 subscriptions are tied to your YTAG account and tool serial, not to the PC, so the subscription moves with the tool:
1. On the new laptop, follow the setup steps above.
2. On the old laptop, uninstall WiTECH 2.0 with Revo Uninstaller (Advanced scan) to avoid conflicts if both laptops touch the same tool.
3. Plug the tool into the new laptop and log into YTAG to complete activation.
4. AE Tools can run this remotely over ScreenConnect; a transfer typically takes 30–60 minutes depending on internet speed.
If the WiTECH 2.0 installer keeps failing
A partial or interrupted install is best cleared with Revo Uninstaller (Advanced scan) and retried. If the installer still fails after a clean uninstall:
- Check Windows Defender and any third-party antivirus. Avast is a known conflict - temporarily disable it during the install and re-enable it afterward.
- A slow internet connection or corporate firewall can break the install. Switch to home Wi-Fi or a phone hotspot for the initial setup.
- Confirm the laptop is fully on Windows 11 Pro - a partial or failed Windows 11 in-place upgrade can leave the system in a state that breaks WiTECH installs.
Troubleshooting - MDP/MDP+ not showing on WiTech dashboard
If your tool doesn't show in the WiTech dashboard after setup, try the following:
First, close and reopen the VCI Setup Utility software. DO NOT click "Continue" or "Wireless Configuration" when it reopens. Both options will require you to entirely reconfigure the tool from scratch.
Second, unplug the USB cable from both the tool and the laptop. Wait 10 seconds, then plug them back in. This refreshes the power to the tool and often allows the WiTech dashboard to detect it.
