How to connect the MicroPod 2 (MDP) or Wireless Smart Pod (WSP) to Wi-Fi using wiTECH 2.0

Step-by-step guide to configuring the wireless settings on your Chrysler/Mopar MicroPod 2 or WSP using the VCI Setup Utility and wiTECH 2.0. Requires an active wiTECH 2.0 subscription.

Need to get your MicroPod 2 (MDP) or Wireless Smart Pod (WSP) connected to Wi-Fi so you can use it with wiTECH 2.0? This guide walks you through the full wireless setup process using the VCI Setup Utility and the wiTECH 2.0 application. You will need an active wiTECH 2.0 subscription and your MDP or WSP plugged into your laptop via USB before starting.

How to connect your MDP or WSP to Wi-Fi using wiTECH 2.0

Step 1: Open the VCI Setup Utility on your laptop. You will see the wiTECH 2.0 Device Setup & Configuration window appear.

Step 2: Click "Wireless Configuration" - do not click Continue. Pressing Continue will cause the pod to remove the current version and forget the Wi-Fi it was previously connected to.

Step 3: Wait for the pod information to appear. You will see the device serial number, firmware version, MAC address, network, and device IP address along with a clickable wiTECH 2.0 URL link (https://app.am.fcawitech.com). Do NOT close this window. It is critical that the VCI Setup Utility window remains open throughout the entire wireless configuration process.

Step 4: Click the wiTECH 2.0 URL link in the VCI Setup Utility window to open the wiTECH 2 sign-in page. Enter your wiTECH 2.0 username and password, check "Remember me" if desired, and click "Sign In."

Step 5: Once logged in, you will land on the Vehicle Selection screen. Verify that your pod is showing up in the device list with its VIN field, Device Name, Device Serial Number, Connection Time, and License Expiration date. It is normal to see a warning that says "Vehicle Communication Interface (VCI) does not appear to be powered via the J1962 connector" when the pod is not plugged into a vehicle. This message can be ignored during Wi-Fi setup.

Step 6: Click on the gear icon in the top-right corner of your device's tile to open the Device Configuration Settings. You will see Device Name/Serial Number, Network, Mapped Users, Version Information, and About. Open the "Network" tab.

Step 7: Under the Network tab, you will see the available Wi-Fi networks. Pick the Wi-Fi network you want the pod to join, enter the password, leave "Show password" and "Use proxy" unchecked unless needed, then click "Connect." Wait for the pod to connect to the Wi-Fi. Do not close the VCI Setup Utility window during this process.

Step 8: Once connected, the pod will show the connected Wi-Fi name in parentheses next to the IP address under the Network tab. Wi-Fi networks the pod is currently connected to will display a check mark, and networks it has previously connected to will display a heart icon. Networks marked with a heart will be connected automatically in order of last connection.

Step 9: Once your Wi-Fi is showing as connected, you can close the VCI Setup Utility and begin using your MDP or WSP wirelessly with wiTECH 2.0.

Important notes about MDP and WSP Wi-Fi setup

This process requires an active wiTECH 2.0 subscription. If your subscription has expired, you will need to renew it before you can log in to wiTECH 2.0 or configure your pod.

Once a VCI device is registered for wiTECH 2.0, it can no longer be converted back to wiTECH 1.0. Mopar recommends assigning a dedicated VCI device for wiTECH 1.0 if you still need to use the older software.

If your pod will not connect to Wi-Fi, verify that the network is broadcasting on a 2.4 GHz band (the MDP and WSP do not support all 5 GHz networks), the password is correct, and the pod has a strong enough signal where it will be used in the shop.
