Durabook Laptop Hardware Issues (Battery, Screen, Won't Boot) and Warranty RMA

When a Durabook has a hardware failure - won't power on, dead or glitching screen, or a battery that won't hold a charge - it's handled through an AE Tools RMA. Here's how to tell a hardware failure from a software/partition issue, and how the RMA works.

A Durabook hardware failure - it won't power on, the screen is dead or showing artifacts, or the battery won't hold a charge - is handled through an AE Tools RMA. Before starting one, it's worth confirming the problem is actually hardware and not a software or partition fault, because those are fixed remotely without sending the unit in. This article covers how to tell the difference, the information to have ready, and how the RMA process works. RMA eligibility depends on the unit's age, which is read from its serial number, so that's confirmed first.

Step 1 - Rule out a software / partition problem first

Some failures look like hardware but aren't. If the laptop powers on but drops into an automatic-repair or boot-loop on one partition while others still work, that's a partition/software issue, not a hardware failure - AE Tools can usually recover it remotely (see the BootIT partition-recovery and multi-partition articles linked below). A true hardware RMA is for: the unit won't power on at all, no display or a damaged screen, a battery that won't charge or hold a charge, or all partitions failing to boot.

Step 2 - Gather the information AE Tools needs

Have the following ready before contacting AE Tools:

- The laptop serial number (sticker on the bottom of the unit).

- A clear description of the failure - won't boot, no display, battery won't charge, etc.

- What changed recently - Windows updates, new software, or any drops or physical damage.

- Your contact phone number and email.

Step 3 - Confirm RMA eligibility (serial-number age)

Durabook RMA eligibility is determined by the unit's age, read from the serial number. AE Tools verifies this first - units within the eligible age window are covered, and older units may require replacement rather than repair. Confirm your warranty status and eligibility with AE Tools before shipping anything; don't send the unit in until eligibility is confirmed and you've been given authorization.

Step 4 - Start the RMA and ship the unit

Once AE Tools confirms the unit is eligible:

1. Complete the RMA process AE Tools provides (this includes an RMA form with your unit and contact details).

2. Wait for send-in authorization and shipping instructions - do not ship before you receive them.

3. Pack the Durabook securely, using the original packaging if you have it.

4. Ship per the instructions AE Tools provides, and keep your tracking number.

For the full send-in procedure (the same RMA workflow used for Windows 11 upgrades), see the Durabook RMA article linked below.

Step 5 - Staying productive while the unit is out

While your Durabook is in for RMA, ask AE Tools whether a temporary remote setup on a backup laptop is possible. Any backup machine needs to meet the OEM minimums (Windows 11 Pro, 16 GB RAM), and moving subscriptions between machines can have lead time - so plan around it rather than assuming a same-day swap.

Step 6 - Battery-specific issues

Battery failures within the warranty window are handled by RMA - symptoms include a battery that won't hold a charge, drops to zero rapidly, or won't charge at all. One thing to try first: a lithium battery left unplugged over a long period (for example a long weekend) can fall into deep discharge and appear dead. Leave it on the charger for up to 24 hours before concluding it's failed; if it's still dead after that, RMA the battery.

Step 7 - Protecting your data before a failure

Software and data on a failed Durabook usually can't be recovered without the unit, so it's worth protecting ahead of time. Most OEM diagnostic software can be reinstalled through the OEM portals using your subscriptions, but local files - customer histories and recorded diagnostic sessions are at risk if the drive fails. For business-critical data, set up cloud sync (such as OneDrive or Google Drive) at initial setup so it's backed up automatically.

Troubleshooting: Durabook hardware symptoms

"It drops to a repair screen on every restart." The partition table may have been corrupted by a Windows update or an improper shutdown - this is usually recoverable remotely with BootIT rather than an RMA. See the multi-partition recovery articles below.

"The battery worked fine, then died over a long weekend." Likely deep discharge from sitting unplugged - charge it for up to 24 hours, and RMA the battery only if it's still dead afterward.

"The screen started flickering after a Windows update." Often a graphics-driver conflict rather than a hardware fault - AE Tools can roll back the graphics drivers remotely before any RMA.
