What tools can do Hyundai and Kia programming and diagnostics

Comparison of aftermarket tools vs OEM Hyundai/Kia diagnostic tablets for module programming, including current limitations of aftermarket J2534 tools.

When it comes to servicing Hyundai and Kia vehicles — particularly for programming and reprogramming modules — it is important to understand the capabilities and limitations of both aftermarket and OEM diagnostic tools.

Aftermarket tools for Hyundai and Kia — limited capability

If you are considering aftermarket tools like the AEZFlasher 3 or the CarDAQ-Plus 3 using the J2534 interface, there are significant limitations you should be aware of.

These tools only support PCM (Powertrain Control Module) and TCM (Transmission Control Module) updates. New module programming is not supported on aftermarket tools.

Important: As of the publishing date of this article, the aftermarket Hyundai/Kia software is broken and not functional. Currently, the aftermarket solution cannot reliably perform any programming or reprogramming functions on Hyundai/Kia vehicles. This page will be updated once a fix has been released.

OEM Hyundai and Kia diagnostic tablets — full coverage with exceptions

The OEM Hyundai/Kia diagnostic tablets offer full support for programming and diagnostics, but with one key exception.

They support all model years except 2015 and older vehicles. These tools are recommended only for shops that frequently service Hyundai/Kia vehicles, as the investment may not be worthwhile for occasional use.
