Do all manufacturers use NASTF for immobilizer programming

Overview of which vehicle manufacturers use NASTF (National Automotive Service Task Force) Secure Data Release Model for immobilizer-related programming, and the notable exceptions - Volkswagen / Audi (ODIS), GM and its sub-brands (Service Programming System), and Volvo / Polestar (VIDA).

Wondering if every vehicle manufacturer uses NASTF for immobilizer programming? Most do - but there are a few notable exceptions where key coding, module replacement, and other security-related procedures are handled outside the NASTF system. Here's a breakdown of which manufacturers don't use NASTF and which OEM software you need instead.

How NASTF immobilizer programming works for most manufacturers

Most vehicle manufacturers in North America rely on NASTF (National Automotive Service Task Force) to provide access to immobilizer-related programming tasks through the Secure Data Release Model (SDRM). This system ensures that locksmiths and repair professionals can perform key coding, module replacement, and other security-related procedures legally and securely.

However, there are a few notable exceptions.

Manufacturers that do not use NASTF for immobilizer programming

As of now, the following manufacturers do not use the NASTF system for immobilizer-related services:

1. Volkswagen and Audi

Volkswagen Group does not integrate with NASTF for key programming or immobilizer functions. Access to these systems typically requires using OE software (ODIS).

2. GM (General Motors) and sub-brands (Chevrolet, GMC, etc.)

GM and its associated brands do not route immobilizer functions through NASTF. Key programming and security procedures are handled entirely within the Service Programming System (SPS).

3. Volvo and Polestar

Volvo and Polestar also fall outside of the NASTF system. Their security functions are handled via Volvo's VIDA software, and access is granted through their proprietary accounts and tools.
