Allison DOC: Purchase, Support-Ticket Setup, and Updates
Allison DOC (Diagnostic Optimized Connection) for Allison transmissions is purchased through AE Tools sales, then set up through a support ticket. AE Tools transfers the software and updates to the customer.
Allison DOC (Diagnostic Optimized Connection) is the diagnostic software for Allison transmissions. Getting it set up through AE Tools is a two-part process: purchase runs through the Sales department, and the software is delivered and set up through a support ticket. This article covers how to purchase, how setup works, and how updates are handled.
Choosing the right Allison DOC version for your transmission
Allison DOC is sold in versions covering different transmission generations, and buying the wrong one is the most common reason the software installs correctly but will not communicate with the truck.
-
Newer transmissions (5th and 6th generation) — covered by Allison DOC Fleet.
-
Older transmissions (4th generation and earlier, broadly 1991–2012) — require the Classic version. Fleet does not support these regardless of how current the installation is.
-
Shops working across both — need Premium with the Classic add-on.
Symptoms of the wrong version on an older transmission: the software connects but returns no data, connection fails entirely, or expected features do not appear. Installing the correct version is the fix — reinstalling the wrong one will not help.
If you are not sure which generation you are working on, contact AE Tools Sales with the truck year, make, and transmission model before ordering.
Step 1 — Purchase through AE Tools Sales
Allison DOC is purchased through the AE Tools Sales department:
1. Contact AE Tools Sales to purchase Allison DOC.
2. Sales creates a Sales Order (SO) for the purchase.
3. Confirm payment to complete the order.
Before a setup session - fleet and municipal accounts
Allison DOC installs on fleet, municipal, and government machines routinely stall because the technician at the machine does not have rights to install software. Sort this out before the session is booked:
-
Confirm whoever will be at the machine has local administrator rights, or that IT will be available during the session.
-
Confirm the machine's security policy allows the install to run as administrator.
-
Have an IT contact name and direct number ready in case approval is needed mid-session.
If your machines are managed centrally, say so when you submit the ticket. A session that stops to wait for IT approval usually has to be rescheduled entirely.
Step 2 — Submit a support ticket for setup
Once the Sales Order is placed, the software is delivered and set up through a support ticket:
1. Submit a support ticket referencing your Sales Order.
2. AE Tools transfers the Allison DOC software to you and completes the setup.
3. AE Tools confirms the software is installed and licensed. For the specific install source and license activation on your machine, AE Tools handles this as part of the ticket — contact AE Tools if you need details for your setup.
Interface and drivers:
Allison DOC connects through a supported interface such as the DPA5. The interface drivers are a separate installation from Allison DOC itself and must be installed before the software will communicate with a transmission. Confirm which interface you have when you submit the setup ticket so the correct drivers are included.
Step 3 — Updates
New Allison DOC updates are transferred to the customer by AE Tools:
1. When updates are available, submit a support ticket (or reference your existing one).
2. AE Tools transfers the update to you.
3. Apply the update and confirm the software is current.
Troubleshooting: Allison DOC
"I purchased Allison DOC but don't have the software yet." Delivery and setup are handled by support ticket after the Sales Order is placed — submit a ticket referencing your order and AE Tools will transfer the software.
"I need a newer version of Allison DOC." Updates are transferred by AE Tools — submit a support ticket and AE Tools will send you the current update.
"I'm running Allison DOC alongside other heavy-duty software." Keeping each OEM environment in its own partition avoids driver conflicts between packages — see the Durabook partition-layout article.
