Toyota Key Programming with a J2534 Device and Toyota TechInfo Subscription

How to program Toyota keys (immobilizer / smart key) using Toyota TechInfo with an Immobilizer subscription and a J2534-compliant pass-thru device. Includes NASTF credential requirements, the 2-day subscription option, and steps for both returning and new TechInfo users.

Can I program Toyota keys with a scan tool?

Yes, toyota key programming (immobilizer / smart key) is supported, but it requires two specific things working together:

- Toyota TechInfo software with an active Immobilizer subscription.
- A J2534-compliant pass-thru device.

If you only have one of these, key programming won't work. The TechInfo subscription unlocks the immobilizer section of the software, and the J2534 device is what actually talks to the vehicle.

Note: Toyota immobilizer functions require NASTF credentials. Make sure your NASTF account is active and current before purchasing the Immobilizer subscription — without it, you won't be able to complete the subscription purchase or access immobilizer programming.

Purchase the Toyota TechInfo Immobilizer subscription

Go to the Toyota TechInfo portal and purchase at minimum a 2-day subscription with the Immobilizer section:

https://techinfo.toyota.com

The exact path depends on whether you've used TechInfo before.

If you are a returning user - renewing or extending:

- On the TechInfo login page, click "Returning User" and "Renewing or Extending your account."
- Click "Upgrade / Extend My Subscription."
- Purchase the Immobilizer section.
- Use your NASTF credentials when prompted.

If you are a new user - creating a TechInfo account:

- On the TechInfo login page, click "First Time User" and "Need a New Account."
- Complete the account registration process.
- Purchase the Immobilizer section.
- Use your NASTF credentials when prompted.

Reminder: NASTF (National Automotive Service Task Force) credentials are required to access Toyota immobilizer programming. Ensure your NASTF account is current before purchasing any immobilizer subscription tier buying the subscription without active NASTF credentials means you won't be able to use it.
