ACDelco TDS Update Process and Subscription Renewal

ACDelco TDS is the subscription behind GM's diagnostic software (Techline Connect, GDS2, SPS2). Keeping it active is an Updates & Licensing task: once the subscription is active and the laptop is on Windows 11 Pro, GM software updates push automatically when you open the apps - a renewal does not require reinstalling anything. This guide covers renewing the subscription, transferring a license to a new laptop, escalating a subscription that's still pending, and fixing the case where TDS installs but won't populate vehicles. 

Step 1 - Renew through AE Tools 

1. Call AE Tools at (913) 856-6678.

2. Provide your tool or laptop serial.

3. Confirm payment.

4. The renewal is processed against your ACDelco TDS account.

A renewal on an existing account is typically quicker than a brand-new subscription, since the account is already set up. For current activation timing on a new subscription, confirm with AE Tools. 

Step 2 - A renewal doesn't require reinstalling GM software 

Once the renewal is processed:

1. The subscription reactivates against your ACDelco TDS account.

2. GM software (Techline Connect, GDS2, SPS2) pulls its updates automatically the next time you launch the apps.

3. There's no need to reinstall anything. If GM software is installed but its data update or sync won't complete, that's a separate issue - see the GM Techline Connect data update / sync article.  

Step 3 — Fix "TDS won't populate diagnostic packages" 

If GM software installs but the vehicle-make list is empty after an install or renewal, the cause is almost always the Windows edition:

1. Go to Settings → System → About and confirm the edition reads Windows 11 Pro.

2. On Windows 11 Home, GM software installs but the diagnostic packages won't load — you'll get an empty make list. 

3. If on Home, move to Windows 11 Pro (an in-place upgrade, or a replacement laptop). AE Tools can confirm upgrade eligibility. 

Step 4 - Escalate a subscription that's still pending 

If a submitted subscription remains inactive longer than expected:

1. Call AE Tools.

2. Provide the order date, tool serial, and registered email.

3. The AE Tools production team follows up with GM / ACDelco directly.

4. Don't buy a second subscription while the first is still pending - that creates duplicate billing that has to be unwound. 

Step 5 — Transfer a license to a new laptop 

When moving an active TDS license from an old laptop to a new one:

1. Call AE Tools.

2. Provide both the old and new PC serials.

3. AE Tools coordinates the transfer with GM / ACDelco.

4. AE Tools can complete the install on the new laptop remotely via ScreenConnect. 

Troubleshooting: ACDelco TDS renewal and update issues 

"I renewed yesterday but TDS still says expired." Allow a few hours for the activation to propagate, then restart the app. If it's still expired after 24 hours, call AE Tools to confirm the renewal processed.

"My older laptop can't run ACDelco anymore." Current GM software requires Windows 11 Pro, and some older laptops can't be upgraded. AE Tools can quote a replacement laptop and transfer your active licenses to it remotely — contact AE Tools for current options and pricing.
